But right now, I’m just making a request…

If you’re talking about this shooting, don’t just start saying it’s because of mental illness, or because he’s a “psychopath.” I want you to understand the implications behind the things you say first. Because if you throw a label…

I live 10 minutes away from Newtown CT where the shooting occured, and this tragedy has had such a huge, horrible impact on the entire community. Newtown is such an innocent, small New England town, and no one in a million years ever thought something like this would happen. My high school is in the next town over from Newtown and when we found out about the incident in my English class on Friday, the entire class sat in complete silence watching the news. Everyone was crying, some were sobbing as the news unraveled of the 27 innocent lives taken just 10 minutes away. You can’t blame people for regarding this man as a psycho  because that’s what he was. He was a sick, twisted, detestable man, and what he did has shattered the lives of so many. As I drove to my job in Newtown this morning, I couldn’t help but cry as I passed through the idyllic little town. Every single person I know is so incredibly disturbed by this tragedy, whether they knew someone involved or not. Nothing will ever be the same for anyone living in Newtown, the surrounding towns, Fairfield County, Connecticut, or even America.

3 of the little girls killed in the shooting went to my dance studio in Newtown. They didn’t deserve to die. I can’t even look at a little kid now without literally bursting into tears. Every ounce of joy has been robbed from the community. So many people can’t sleep, can’t eat, can’t even function. Today in my church in a town next to Newtown, hundreds of us all held hands and cried for the lost lives. And no one can ever even begin to find words to describe the hell parents of deceased children are going through.

20 beautiful children whose lives were taken. None of them deserved this. Honestly, stop being so fucking politically correct. This isn’t about mental illness, this isn’t about labels, this isn’t about judgement  But anyone who would ruthlessly steal the lives of 27 human beings, 20 being innocent children, is obviously not mentally stable. A person who shoots their own mother point-blank in the face is clearly not mentally stable. This horrendous tragedy isn’t about mental illness, it’s not about being politically correct, it’s not about gun control, it’s not about pointing fingers. It’s about honoring the lives of those who are no longer with us. Those who went to school one day, and never came home.

Our community has been shattered and will never, ever recover.

And to the three beautiful angels from my dance studio: Charlotte, Jessica, and Olivia- sing with the angels and dance your way to Heaven.
